The Arizona Collaborative for Excellence in Preparation of Teachers (ACEPT), supported by the National Science Foundation, has implemented science and mathematics reforms that are affecting the preparation of K-12 teachers in Arizona.

Faculty at Arizona State University are collaborating with faculty in the ten Phoenix area Maricopa County Community Colleges, in the state's one tribal college, Diné College, and in 85 K-12 schools of the Phoenix Urban Systemic Initiative to reform the general studies undergraduate science and mathematics curricula taken by students in preservice teacher education. The goals of ACEPT are aligned with national science and mathematics standards and with those of the Phoenix USI project, and focus on critical thinking in student-centered, inquiry-oriented classrooms.

ACEPT reforms are impacting teacher education throughout the state of Arizona.
